The name Heaven Sent was inspired by the moment Helena Rubinstein smelled the final formulation and exclaimed, “What a heavenly scent.” Created in 1941, the perfume opens with bright citrus, neroli and spearmint before unfolding into lily of the valley, carnation, ylang-ylang and rose. Woods, oakmoss, resins and musk bring warmth to the base.
Intent on upstaging her longtime rival Elizabeth Arden, Rubinstein gave Heaven Sent a memorable debut by releasing 500 pink and blue balloons from the roof of Bonwit Teller. Each carried a small wicker basket holding a sample vial and a message reading, “Out of the blue to you.” Heaven Sent went on to become one of Rubinstein's most popular perfumes.
