In-Depth Summary:
Ernest Beaux created Le No. 1 de Rallet during the 1920s, bringing the old Russian house into the modern aldehydic era. Rallet began in Moscow in 1843 and became a supplier to the Imperial Russian household in 1855. Its acquisition of the Dyutfua crystal works also gave the company the ability to make distinctive bottles of its own. Chiris acquired Rallet in 1896, and the house continued in France after its Russian operations were nationalized in 1917.
Le No. 1 is a Floral Aldehyde with a bright opening of aldehydes, neroli and citrus. Orris, ylang-ylang, rose and jasmine shape the floral heart, followed by a darker base of civet, castoreum, musk, smoke, balsamic notes, woods and oakmoss. Its sparkling aldehydic character belongs to the same early modern fragrance tradition associated with Beaux’s Chanel No. 5.
