Jacques Guerlain introduced Vol de Nuit — French for “Night Flight” — in 1933, taking its name from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel about pilots in aviation’s early years. The composition turns the novel’s shadowed world of courage and uncertainty into scent: cool citrus and galbanum lead into jonquil, orris, vanilla, spices, oakmoss, and sandalwood, creating a fragrance that is both austere and atmospheric.
This sealed 80 cc (approximately 2.7 fl. oz) bottle of Vol de Nuit Extrait Perfume is about 20% full. Made by Baccarat circa 1937 in the smoked-glass rayonnant design, it is number 210 of 8,000. Its cork stopper retains the membrane, while the separate glass stopper with gilt-metal plaque rests beside the bottle in the zebra-patterned fitted box.
