Guy Laroche introduced Fidji in 1966, pairing the dream of a distant island with an airy green floral by perfumer Josephine Catapano. Galbanum and ylang-ylang lead into rose, clove, jasmine, tuberose, iris and spices over ambergris, balsam, musk, patchouli and sandalwood. Its memorable “A woman is an island” imagery helped bring a bold new marketing language to French prestige perfume.
