Charbert introduced Breathless nationally in 1942, giving its romantic name particular resonance during the war years. The floral oriental woody scent opens with aldehydes, citrus, herbs and spice, then moves through orange blossom, jasmine, rose, syringa, lily of the valley and carnation. Oakmoss, woods, resins, musk, ambergris and vanilla create a warm, lasting base. Bath powder became part of the extended Breathless beauty ritual, allowing the scent to be worn in a softer form.
