Turkish Rose was part of A.A. Vantine & Co.’s early perfume line and appears in the company’s 1919 catalog, where its scent was likened to freshly cut roses. The catalog offered several sizes, including the substantial 16 fl. oz capacity of this bottle. Founded in New York in 1869, Vantine became known for imported decorative arts, perfume, incense and luxury goods from Asia and the Middle East. The company said its labels, wrappings and boxes were designed in its Japanese studios by Japanese artists. The embossed paper label on this bottle, with its bold red, green and gold coloring, is very much in that elaborate Oriental-inspired style. Original Vantine perfume bottles and labels are comparatively scarce today.
