In-Depth Summary:
Jacques Guerlain introduced Vol de Nuit in 1933, naming it after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel Vol de Nuit, or “Night Flight.” The fragrance reflects the era’s fascination with aviation and modern travel, with a cool green opening that develops into dry florals, iris, spice, vanilla and amber. The overall character is woody, elegant and atmospheric rather than overtly sweet.
This circa-1937 Vol de Nuit Extrait is presented in an 80 cc smoked-glass Baccarat rayonnant bottle, numbered 210 of 8,000. It remains sealed with its membrane-covered cork and includes the separate glass stopper with gilt-metal plaque in the original zebra-patterned presentation box.
