Fred Hayman introduced 273 in 1989, naming it for his celebrated boutique at 273 North Rodeo Drive. Nearly two years in development, the final scent was selected after Hayman and a panel of clients considered roughly 1,000 submissions. Gardenia, tuberose and jasmine give the opening its lush white-floral character, softened by peach and plum before ylang-ylang, orris, woods, amber and spices add warmth. Its glamorous debut at Universal Studios suited a perfume created to capture the bright confidence of Beverly Hills.
