Gianni Versace launched his first perfume in 1981 with the Charles of the Ritz Group. The dramatic aldehydic floral chypre blends marigold, honeysuckle, lavender and ylang-ylang with a lavish floral heart, then deepens into incense, moss, leather, myrrh, sandalwood and patchouli. Its 1982 American debut joined a black-tie perfume launch with a showing of Versace's fall collection for the Los Angeles Ballet Guild.
