Launched in 1947 as Balenciaga's first perfume, Le Dix was created by Francis Fabron and named for the couture salon at 10 Avenue George V—“The Ten” in French. Sparkling aldehydes and citrus lead into rose, jasmine, violet, iris, lilac and ylang-ylang, followed by leather, woods, balsams, vanilla, musk and civet. The result reflects the restraint, balance and romance associated with Balenciaga's postwar couture.
